From home makeovers to festive gatherings: Weaving sustainability into the heart of community

Introduction

As Singapore celebrates 60 years of progress, Re Sustainability strengthens community ties through acts of renewal, inclusion, and togetherness – from home transformation efforts to inclusive cultural celebrations.

Transforming homes and environments

On 14 March, Re Sustainability Singapore staff and youth volunteers from Blossom World Society gathered for a different kind of renewal. They weren’t at a recycling plant or managing waste systems. This time, they were scrubbing floors, sorting through boxes, and restoring dignity to an elderly resident’s home.

The beneficiary had been living alone in a cluttered and unsafe environment. Over the course of a day, volunteers worked side by side to clean, declutter, and organise her home into a safe and comfortable space. The experience was moving for everyone involved.

“It was a privilege to roll up my sleeves and participate in this home transformation activity,” said Daniel Yip, Operations Director at Re Sustainability. “Taking part in this activity reminded me of the power of teamwork, the joy in giving selflessly, and the importance of maintaining a clean and positive environment – not just around us, but within us too. It was a powerful lesson in empathy, humility, and gratitude.”

The initiative, made possible through collaboration with Blossom World Society, marked the first of a potential series of home transformations. It showed how sustainability, at its core, is just as much about people as it is about the planet.

Cultivating a broader view of sustainability

As one of Singapore’s leading environmental solutions providers, Re Sustainability looks beyond environmental performance alone. The company’s vision of sustainability includes promoting community well-being and creating healthy, safe, and dignified living conditions.

The home transformation initiative is a tangible reflection of this belief. It bridges ecological health and human dignity, demonstrating how even small acts like cleaning or decluttering a home can have a profound and lasting impact.

This broader philosophy has also shaped two sustainability-themed workshops Re Sustainability conducted for children at a local home on 5 and 13 June. Through interactive sessions, young participants were introduced to environmental topics in fun and relatable ways, empowering the next generation to think about sustainability early on.

Just a day after the second workshop, on 14 June, employees came together once more for a Plant-a-Tree activity, continuing their contribution to environmental stewardship. The initiative served as a reminder that small actions can take root and create lasting impact.

By framing sustainability through the lens of care and inclusion, Re Sustainability encourages a more holistic approach to purpose. It’s a reminder that a sustainable future requires not only green practices, but also compassion and connection.

But none of these initiatives would be possible without strong collaboration and teamwork. Re Sustainability grounds its purposeful approach in partnerships with civil society organisations, youth groups, and government-linked institutions. These partnerships enable the company to tap into a broader network of expertise, experience, and empathy, thereby amplifying its reach and reinforcing its commitment to inclusive progress.

Honouring culture and inclusion through shared celebrations

Beyond outreach programmes, Re Sustainability also brought people together through shared celebrations that reinforced unity, gratitude, and inclusion – values that resonate with the SG60 spirit.

  • During Chinese New Year on 18 February, employees ushered in the festive season with a vibrant lion dance, engaging games, and a communal meal among colleagues. They shared ang pao gifts filled with oranges to symbolise wishes for prosperity, health, and happiness. This celebration reflects the joy of coming together while steeped in cultural heritage.

  • On 20 March, the company marked International Women’s Day (IWD) with a self-leadership workshop for female employees, in collaboration with social enterprise SELF. The session focused on strategies to manage multiple roles, nurture self-worth and lead with confidence. The speaker shared her journey as a working mother and community advocate, helping bridge inspiration with real-life challenges.

  • For Hari Raya on 2 April, the company spread cheer by distributing goodies across all its sites. Staff from all backgrounds joined in the celebration, reinforcing a sense of unity and shared joy.

  • On 30 May, staff came together for a BBQ party aimed at strengthening teamwork and fostering connections. Over delicious food and lively music, colleagues shared meaningful moments, reflecting the company’s emphasis on unity and togetherness.

  • In June, the company collaborated with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) on the Identify and Act Against Scams programme. More than 90 employees participated in this interactive session, which combined learning with a shared sense of purpose. The training equipped staff with practical skills to spot warning signs, respond effectively, and protect themselves and their communities, reinforcing a culture of care and vigilance alongside celebration.

  • On 19 July, staff and their families joined forces to clean up a local beach, turning the initiative into a day of community, care and collective action. From picking up plastic waste to sorting recyclables, every helping hand contributed to a cleaner, healthier environment. The activity was a reminder of the impact that can be made when working together with a shared purpose.

  • On 22 July, the company hosted a learning journey for secondary school students to help them understand more about sustainability and the career opportunities available in the Environmental Service Sector. The programme included a career panel with staff sharing their experiences, and a surprise talk by the CEO, who encouraged students to dream big. Students left feeling motivated and inspired to explore roles in building a greener future.

  • On 28 July, in collaboration with its client from the World Aquatics Championship (WAC) team, the company organised for seniors to attend the swimming event. Thoughtful arrangements, including a dedicated entry lane, bottled water, and on-site assistance, ensured a smooth and enjoyable experience. For many seniors, it was their first time at a world-class sporting event, and they expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity.

More than just calendar events, these activities provided moments of belonging, opportunities for learning, and platforms for appreciation.
